On January 30th, 2009 Sam’s Club Members were mailed letters from the Vice President of Food Safety and Quality Assurance of Wal-Mart Stores Inc., Rank Yiannas. In cooperation with the FDA, Atkins Nutritionals initiated a RECALL of its ATKINS CHOCOLATE PEANUT BUTTER WITH UPC NUMBER – 0063748002501.

I hereby urge the nation to take the time to look through their cabinets if this is a brand of food that you have and check each barcode for the UPC number above.

Although we Americans are thankful for technology that gives us the ability to be notified if we purchased a product with harmful substances within; the fact is they were too late.

If records indicated that families purchased bars with the UPC mentioned, and the bars mentioned had already been eaten; it was too late to save those who suffered illness from the Salmonella contamination, due to the fact that the letter was not received until over two weeks later.

However, the company has actually saved hundreds maybe even millions of American’s, by letting them know as soon as they had the means to do so. We should not judge others in their type of business, but rather encourage them to do better.
