How to Survive a Plane Crash

Expert safety tips on how to survive a plane crash.

According to British Airways executives, here are five top tips to help you survive a plane crash.

-Always pay attention to the safety briefing, even if you think you’ve heard it countless times before. Airlines and craft have different layouts so it’s important to listen to the pre-take-off demonstration.

-Note where the nearest exit is and the one after that. One tip is to count the number of seats between you and the exits in case a fire or other incident reduces visibility in the cabin.

-Make sure that you know where your life jacket is – locations can vary from plane to plane. And check that it is actually there and that you understand how to put it on.

-Aircraft seat belts work differently to car seat belts so before take-off, attach and release it several times so you know exactly how it works. When alarmed and stressed, people have struggled with this.

-In the case of emergency, always adopt the brace position as it really does reduce the risk of serious injury. Contrary to urban myth, it is not just to help protect the jaw and aid identification of bodies via dental records.

  9. Very useful information. But I am with Martin, I hope I never need this. I never thought about struggling with the seat belt and I just took two 19 hour flights (19 on the way there, 19 on the way home) with in the last 3 weeks. Scary to see something this after riding on a plane for the first time LOL
