There was 1,270 reported food-borne disease outbreaks in 2006, resulting in 27,634 illnesses and 11 deaths.
Most food related illnesses and deaths are just not reported or recorded. The CDC estimates that 76 million Americans have an unreported food -borne illness each year. Food-borne illnesses can cause symptoms as minor as day or two diarrhea to kidney failure, or even death.
A study by the National Highway Safety Administration found that eating and driving is one of the most distracting things a driver can do. The study reported that eighty percent of crashes involve driver distraction.

So, I went on a massive search to see what the riskiest foods were, and found two interesting lists. The first was actually by the FDA- “Top Ten Riskiest Foods Regulated by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.” The report readily admits that archaic food safety laws, the rise of mass scale production and processing, and the global food structure has created “a perfect storm of unsafe food.” So, you are probably thinking as I was….well if you know it….why don’t you fix it? But, that is another article entirely. The second list was by Insurance.com, a top internet auto insurance company. They compiled a list of 10 most dangerous foods to eat while driving.
According to the FDA the following foods account for around 40% of all food born outbreaks; ironically, many of the foods also fall under the riskiest foods also fall under the healthiest and most popular food choices.

2. Eggs: 11,163 reported cases of illness
3. Tuna: 2,341 reported cases of illness
4. Oysters: 3,409 reported cases of illness
5. Potatoes: 3,659 reported cases of illness
6. Cheese: 2,761 reported cases of illness
7. Ice Cream: 2,594 reported cases of illness
8. Tomatoes: 3,292 reported cases of illness
9. Sprouts: 2,022 reported cases of illness
10. Berries: 3,397 reported cases of illness
