Expensive Smokes

Price of cigarettes in NY.
Wow! The price of a pack of cigarettes in New York City is, well, I am not sure; the price keeps going up and up. I am unable to keep track. Now the manufacturers are also raising the price. But, nothing beats the phenomenal taxes the state and city are piling on smokes.
Well, smokers are becoming an unpopular group. That is why it is easy to tax them. Everyone buys soda and bread. Imagine the uproar in taxing these items. No chance! Unpopular smokers will take the brunt along with any other unpopular group or item. Such is human nature and government. Apparently, the only other individual I can think of besides the illustrious leaders of New York, who was so much against smoking was… I better leave it to the reader’s imagination. A hint? He looked like Charlie Chaplin.
Naturally, the taxes taken in will lessen. They always do when taxes are raised, and in this case, a drastic increase. Do you really think the state or city care about your health? No way!. They would be happier with smokers dying off. Less expenditures on them in these tough times.
Where does this extra tax money go you ask? Most of it, like your social security contributions are taken out and spent on things totally unrelated to health. Like golf courses, etc. Get the idea?
