Fabric softener is one of hoursehold tools that every family has. It does wonders on stiff fabrics and it leaves them soft and smooth. I love using lots of it when washing beedsheets and pillowcases. Other than that, fabric softeners has many other alternative uses. Below are some of them than may help you with things around the house.

Remove old wallpaper

Bored of the same old paper throughout the years? No worries! You can remove it by simply using fabric softener. Dilute 1 cap-full of fabric softener with 1 liter/1 qt. of water. Wet a sponge into the solution and apply to the wallpaper, leave for 20 minutes and use a scraper to remove the wallpaper off the wall.

Get static free carpet

To get rid of static shock when you walk across your carpet, spray it with a fabric softener solution. Mix 1 cup softener with 2 1/2 quarts (2.5 liters) water; fill up a spray bottle and evenly spritz the carpet. Make sure not to saturate it and damage the carpet backing. Mist in the evening and let the carpet dry all night long before walking on it. The effect should last for a couple of weeks.

Get rid of hard water stains

Hard water stans on windows can be hard to eliminate. Use undiluted liquid fabric softener onto the hard water stain and leave for 10 minutes before using a wet towel to wipe the fabric softener and residue away.

Remove hair spray residue

Dried-on overspray from hair spray can be hard to eliminate from walls and vanities, but even a buildup of residue is no match for a mixture of 1 part liquid fabric softener to 2 parts water. Stir well to blend, transfer into a spray bottle, spritz the surface, and wipe it with a dry cloth.

Keep paintbrush soft

After using a paintbrush, clean the bristles carefully and rinse them in a coffee can full of water with a drop of liquid fabric softener mixed in. Rinse thoroughly and wipe the bristles to dry and store the brush as usual.

Create your own fabric softener sheet

Fabric softener sheets are very convenient to use, but they’re too expensive when compared to the price of liquid softeners. You can create your own dryer sheets and save some money. Just dampen an old wash-cloth with 1 teaspoon liquid softener and throw it into the dryer with your next load.
